Zakhor!

"Zakhor!" means "remember!" in Hebrew. Under the motto, artists from Vilnius were invited to creatively focus on the subject of "Jewish Life and Jewish Culture in Vilnius" and put their memories, thoughts and ideas on paper or canvas. A selection of thirty of the workssubmitted in this competition are compiled in this catalogue. These works will be exhibited worldwide over the next few years, in places where the descendants of Lithuanian Jews live today, such as Argentina, Brazil, Israel, South Africa, and the US.Dr. Elke-Vera Kotowski ist wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am Moses Mendelssohn Zentrum für europäisch-jüdische Studien an der Universität Potsdam.Julius H. Schoeps, geb. 1942 in Schweden, ist mütterlicherseits ein Nachfahre der Familie Mendelssohn-Bartholdy. Er studierte in Erlangen und Berlin Geschichte, Geistesgeschichte, Politische Wissenschaft und Theaterwissenschaft. 1974-1992 Professor an der Universität Duisburg, seit 1992 Professor für Neuere Geschichte und Direktor des Moses Mendelssohn Zentrums für europäisch-jüdische Studien an der Universität Potsdam. Verfasser zahlreicher Veröffentlichungen zur deutsch-jüdischen Geschichte.
